“Launching Out” opens with President Ikeda’s 1980 trip to China, with the aim of solidifying “the golden bridge of friendship between China and Japan that had been built through grassroots exchange and to continue expanding the great path of lasting peace toward the 21st century.” That year, he also traveled to North and Central America, and the Soviet Union.

There are six chapters in volume 30, the final volume of The New Human Revolution. Published chapters are available at worldtribune.org.

Chapter 1: “Great Mountain” (published)
Chapter 2: “Awaiting the Time” (published)
Chapter 3: “Launching Out” (currently publishing)
Chapter 4: “Bells of Dawn” (tentative title; to be published in the near future)
Chapter 5: “Cheers of Victory” (tentative title; to be published in the near future)
Chapter 6: “Vow” (published)

The New Human Revolution is a record of the modern development of the Soka Gakkai and the SGI, following Daisaku Ikeda’s inauguration as the third Soka Gakkai president in 1960. It also serves as practical guidance for how to further expand our movement for kosen-rufu. President Ikeda appears in the novel as Shin’ichi Yamamoto.

He began writing The New Human Revolution on Aug. 6, 1993, at the Nagano Training Center in Karuizawa, Japan, and concluded it exactly 25 years later in the same location, on Aug. 6, 2018.

In the closing lines of his “Afterword” to The New Human Revolution, President Ikeda writes: “As long as suffering and misery exist anywhere on our planet, we must continue to weave with rich color and bold creativity the magnificent tapestry of human victory that is kosen-rufu. That is why our mentor-disciple journey to realize the great vow for kosen-rufu will continue forever” (March 2019 Living Buddhism, p. 17).
