WESTON, Fla.—One hundred and ninety-three youth representatives from the U.S., Canada and New Zealand confirmed the spirit and significance of studying SGI President Ikeda’s 30-volume lifetime work, The New Human Revolution, at the North America and Oceania Study Conference, led by SGI Vice Study Leader Nobuo Fukase.
The conference, held Feb. 1–4 at the Florida Nature and Culture Center, began with a powerful message from President Ikeda, in which he called this “an auspicious time, when Bodhisattvas of the Earth, champions united by the bonds of mentor and disciple, are emerging simultaneously across the globe.” He continued:
Now is the time for youth who have vowed to advance kosen-rufu to courageously and dynamically take action. Now is the time for a beautiful profusion of “human flowers”[1] to blossom, with each of you developing your unique and diverse talents based on the Buddhist principle of “cherry, plum, peach and damson.”[2]
You are the pioneers of kosen-rufu in this new era.
On Feb. 2, SGI-USA youth representatives attending the conference participated in an unveiling ceremony for the breathtaking, eight-piece Chihuly glass sculpture that President Ikeda gifted to the youth of America in celebration of last year’s 50,000 Lions of Justice Festival (see top photo). He requested that it be displayed as a symbol of the “shared triumph of mentor and disciple.”[3]
