The Buddha’s utterances [with his pure and far-reaching voice] have become the works that compose the entire body of sutras and bring benefit to all living beings. And among the sutras, the Lotus Sutra is a manifestation in writing of the Thus Come One Shakyamuni’s intent; it is his voice set down in written words. Thus the Buddha’s heart is embodied in these written words.

The words of the Buddhist sutras are the crystallization of the Buddha’s wish to lead all people to enlightenment. The Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai daily newspaper, embodies this wondrous power of words.
For seven decades,[1] through the power of the written word and visual image, the paper has continued to impart courage for overcoming adversity and communicate the truth of our grassroots movement bringing people around the world together.
In these confusing and challenging times, let’s share the Seikyo Shimbun and its sister publications—whose pages are filled with the vibrant energy and brilliant smiles of our members—and spread the wisdom of value creation for a brighter future.
Translated from the April 17, 2021 Seikyo Shimbun, the Soka Gakkai’s daily newspaper.
