This year’s student division conference at the Florida Nature and Culture Center will be joined by Dr. Ira Helfand, co-president of International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War, which received the 1985 Nobel Peace Prize. He is also on the steering committee of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.
In September 1957, second Soka Gakkai President Josei Toda called on the youth, future leaders of society, to wage an uncompromising battle against “evil incarnate”—nuclear weapons and all they represent.
From July 28–31, students from across the country will gather to explore the mutual relationship between personal and global transformation, between a change in one’s heart and a change in society.
Dr. Helfand’s lecture will be followed by a lecture and Q&A by SGI-USA Youth Leaders Amelia Gonzalez and Shota Okajima on Nichiren Daishonin’s treatise “On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land.”
