“Opening” [of “opening the door of Buddha wisdom” (see The Lotus Sutra and Its Opening and Closing Sutras, p. 64)] is another name for the mind of faith. When we recite Myoho-renge-kyo [chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo][1] with the mind of faith, we are in that very act opening the door of Buddha wisdom.

The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, pp. 28–29

Faith in the Mystic Law is the key to opening or unlocking the Buddha wisdom we all possess. In our society today, so many young people are struggling with issues of self-esteem. The mission of our student division members—Bodhisattvas Universal Worthy of Soka embodying broad-ranging wisdom—is therefore ever more important.[2] I hope you will chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for your own and others’ happiness so that you can bring forth your inherent dignity and nobility and help others do the same.

The world craves people of genuine wisdom and intellect who stand up for and devote themselves to people’s happiness. I hope you will build a growing network of bright young minds dedicated to value creation and illuminate the future of the global family of humankind.
