The Mosi-oa-Tunya, also known as Victoria Falls, is a waterfall on the Zambezi River, located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is the world’s greatest sheet of falling water, with a width of 5,604 feet and height of 355 feet. Its name Mosi-oa-Tunya, which is Lozi for “Thundering Smoke,” comes its size and the approximately 130 million gallons of water plunging noisily down a series of basalt gorges every minute. In addition to its exceptional geological features, it has the added beauty of the waterfall’s mist and rainbows, which can be seen miles away.
