HAGATNA, Guam—Thousands of residents gathered on July 21, 2024, for the 80th Liberation Day Parade themed “Todu i Tiempo i Pas Para Hita,” a CHamoru phrase that means “Peace for Us Always.”
Started in 1945, this longstanding tradition celebrates Guam’s liberation from Japanese occupation by the U.S. military forces during World War II. The celebration is the island’s largest and includes festivities such as a summer carnival, queen contest, fireworks display and milelong parade on Marine Corps Drive.
The SGI-USA Guam members were among the groups to participate in the parade, where the members shared the humanistic philosophy of Buddhism with over 6,000 people in their community. With the opening of the Guam Ikeda Peace and Culture Center on Jan. 21, 2023, and toward the 50th anniversary of the SGI’s establishment, the members of Guam are actively building trust within their communities and stirring waves of peace.
